Jacksonville Salvation Army Auctioning Two Rides from The '70S

The Salvation Army May 9 auction at 10900 Beach Boulevard will feature two 1970s autos that exude European elegance and American power, and maybe at prices much lower than you expect.

Many vehicles pass through these bi-monthly auctions well below market value. These two could also, as their prices depend only upon the bidders. Those interested should not miss the chance to snag a great deal.

The first is a 1973 red with white top MINI Innocenti that has only 30,576 miles. It has been kept in a garage and preserved so well that it seems like it left the lot in the U.K. yesterday and pulled up to the U.S. today.

"Sometimes the car you expect to sell for thousands goes for hundreds. Come ready for what could be the deal of a lifetime."

Joseph Cohen, Community Relations Director

The pristine interior, buzz of the engine, clever MINI maneuverability and nostalgia combine to transport the driver right back to 1970s Europe. You can see it up close at the Family Store on Beach Blvd., where it will be charming customers from the sidewalk until the day of the auction.

The second vehicle is a vintage orange 1971 Chevy C20 Pickup with 65,000 miles. And though it has been on the road more than the other, the donor basically rebuilt it over the last 16,000 miles.

The restoration included: a Chevy 350 engine, a paint-job, a four-speed floor shift, an Edelbrock carburetor, a front end and bumper, a clutch, an air conditioner, brakes, rotors, rear drums and more.

This truck embodies a proud American automotive heritage that is hard to find in this condition at such a potentially low auction price. It’s at least worth a look and likely worth a bid.

The auction begins at 10:00 a.m. in front of The Salvation Army store at 10900 Beach Boulevard, and will boast approximately 20 vehicles. Residents are encouraged to show up as early as 8:30 a.m., ready to compete, knowing that all proceeds support the rehabilitation center program at the same address.

The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center on 10900 Beach Boulevard pulls people from the road of disparity and sets them upon a pathway of healing through a six-month residential program that provides warm beds, three meals a day, personal counseling, life-preparation courses and more to 125 participants at a time. The goal is to rehabilitate the body, mind and soul. These services are made possible by community donations sold through The Salvation Army Family Stores.
