HISTORY

Jaipur was installed by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in the year 1727. It was planned by architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. The architectural design of the city was considered way ahead of its period and design in a scientific norm based on the Shilpashastra. It took around 4 years for the major place in the pink city to be completed.

The Maharaja himself was an intelligent astronomer and a city planner. Hence, his impact is largely viewed in the way the city has been constructed completely with Jantar Mantar (observatory) and Janana Mahals (women’s palaces). The raja was also very keen on the protection aspects of the Jaipur city. Hence, the city was encircled with large fortifications which had begun at 7 various places.
