James Buttersworth (English 1817 - 1894) An Original Oil On Canvas Painting by James Buttersorth - The Olivebank is one of the highlight paintings in Manor Auctions quarterly Fine Art, Jewelry & Collectible Auction at the Lakeland Center this Saturday, October 9th. This particular piece unsigned and has been cut from its original frame. The signature was most probably cut from the painting upon removal from the original frame. It has been mounted to another canvas. This beautiful period work of Butterworth was acquired from a Hudson Valley NY estate, an area where James Buttersworth spent a great deal of time.

Following after his father Thomas Buttersworth a highly regarded maritime artist, James established himself as one of the most noted American ship painters. His striking attention to detail and grace portrayed by his nautical paintings remains unparalleled to this day. They are truly beautiful works which set nicely in most every setting.

Born in England, James Buttersworth moved to the Northeast United States, where he traveled and painted extensively about the waterways. Buttersworth painted up until his death. It is believed about 600 pieces of his works survive today. Many can be found on exhibit in museums throughout the world.
Beyond the Fine Art section of the auction, Manor will be selling 700 lots on the day to include Fine Jewelry, Diamonds, Coins, Timepieces, Sports Memorabilia, Entertainment Memorabilia, Military Antiques, Collectibles, Statuary, Lighting, Silver, Gold & Silver Shipwreck Coins, Scrimshaw, Ivory, Jade, Quilts, Vintage Instruments, Antiquities and even Clark Gable's Golf Cart.
