Online, December 15, 2009 (Newswire.com) - Janet Thweatt, who works as a sonographer for Mid-South Maternal Fetal Medicine, has recently been recognized by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). As a result of this recognition, she is now designated as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer.
Incorporated in 1975, the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) is an independent, non-profit organization that administers examinations and awards credentials in the areas of diagnostic medical sonography, diagnostic cardiac sonography, vascular interpretation, and vascular technology.
Sonography, also more commonly referred to as "ultrasonography" or "ultrasounds," is a medical procedure which uses high-frequency sound waves to produce visual images of organs, tissues, or blood flow within the body. It is used to examine various parts of the body, including the breasts, reproductive system, abdomen, heart, prostate, and blood vessels. It is radiation-free, and is becoming more commonly used for the detection of potential heart and vascular disease. A sonographer places a probe against the skin over the area which is being examined, and the image is viewed on a monitor which resembles a television screen.
Janet Thweatt has been employed by Mid-South Maternal Fetal Medicine for seven years. Prior to joining MSMFM, she was employed in the Baptist Hospital system. She is married, and is the mother of one child.
According to Terri Vest, office manager for MSMFM: "We are extremely proud of Janet for this accomplishment. She has shown herself to be highly competent in her field, and is very deserving of this recognition."
Mid-South Maternal Fetal Medicine is a consultative practice which specializes in the treatment of high-risk pregnancies.
