Jansen Arts Center Rescinds Lease Offer to Gift of Dance
Online, February 28, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Lynden, WA (Dateline) - A Gift of Dance ("AGoD") today announced that The Jansen Arts Center ("Jansen") has voted to rescind the lease offer previously made to A Gift of Dance for the Arts Center in Lynden, WA.
Jansen cited tax concerns regarding Jansen being a 501(c)3 corporation and a landlord. Jansen Directors cited counsel by their attorney that being a landlord and having anchor tenants would not be permissible by current IRS regulations. Additionally, Jansen has determined that it is in their mission's best interest to have full control and authority over any performing arts programs housed at their center.
The ramifications of Jansen's decision meant A Gift of Dance could only move into the Jansen Art Center via the dissolution of AGoD as an operating entity, the dissolution of the instructor staff and the loss of membership and community input into AGoD policies and procedures.
AGoD's Board of Directors has unanimously agreed that AGoD will continue in its mission utilizing the current space provided by City Bible Church until such time as more suitable space conducive to the mission of AGoD, the interests of the parents, staff, students and the community at large is secured.
AGoD Chairman, Mr. Miklos Preysz had this to say, "A Gift of Dance is a community effort to bring the enrichment of the dance and performing arts to everyone in the community. The Board of A Gift of Dance felt it was not in the community's best interest for AGoD to set aside this mission for the sake of the new space."
AGoD wishes to thank City Bible Church, The Jansen Arts Center, the Lynden community, parents, instructors and students for their patience, support and encouragement. AGoD's board of Directors is currently in discussions with several other suitable locations from whence AGoD may find a more permanent home from which to continue its mission in the community.
A Gift of Dance is a non-profit community sponsored corporation who's mission statement is:"A Gift of Dance desires to teach the art of dance as a gift and discipline that enriches both the individual and the community.". A Gift of Dance is operated by a non-shareholding board charged with proliferating the mission of the non-profit for the benefit of the membership and the community.
