Jay-Z Contact Details Stolen As Celebrity PR Database Gets Hacked
Jay-Z is left reeling after his contact details are released to the general public during the Celebrity Unlimited database break-in.
Online, April 22, 2014 (Newswire.com) - International superstar Shawn Corey Carter, more commonly known as Jay-Z, has been left in the lurch after his personal contact details were published online by an online vigilante group calling themselves the 'Vri-Il Hacker Collective'.
The group hacked into the website of the huge celebrity public relation firm Celebrity Unlimited, creating a gateway website called dial-a-celeb.co.cc granting members of the general public access to the contact database containing the details of over 30,000 VIPs. Other high profile celebrities said to have been targeted are teen icon Justin Bieber along with his current love interest Selena Gomez and wacky pop star Lady Gaga.
Rumors began to spread through social networking sites like wild fire earlier this week that the site's security had been penetrated. This was later confirmed by Celebrity Unlimited who issued the following apologetic statement:
"We became aware of a possible security breach earlier in the week. We would like to inform our clients that this does not affect their service and that all efforts are being made to return the database access to regular operation. All clients and members have already been advised that their accounts are still secure and that, as a company who has been trading for over 10 years, we are committed to ensuring the confidentiality of all affected."
Celebrity Unlimited claims to currently have the intrusion under control, however at the time of writing, the gateway was still open, granting full access to their contact database, a privilege costing paying clients $15,000 upwards per annum.
It is unclear how much time will pass before the leak is fully under control, however it would appear that the damage has already been done. There will no doubt be a torrent of celebrities issuing press statements about this break-in in the weeks to come.
