Jeld-Wen Gives Back With 2012 Habitat For Humanity Blitz Build

JELD-WEN Canada continues their support for Habitat for Humanity by supplying product and volunteers for the 2012 Winnipeg Blitz Build, held from July 9th to the 21st in the North Winnipeg suburb of Riverbend.

Continuing their tradition as a steadfast supporter of Habitat for Humanity in Canada, JELD-WEN teamed with the charitable organization as part of their 2012 Blitz Build, which took place from July 9 to July 21 in the North Winnipeg suburban community of Riverbend.

Over the 11-day blitz, the previously vacant strip of land was transformed with the construction of four side-by-side units (eight homes). As in years past, the blitz saw hundreds of volunteers descend on the site to take the homes from poured foundation to enclosed abode in under two weeks. JELD-WEN Canada supplied not only windows and doors for the project, but a number of volunteers as well. By years end, another side-by-side dwelling will be completed on the site, providing homes for a total of 10 families.

"We as an organization are tremendously proud to support Habitat for Humanity and their efforts year after year," says Laura Kirk, Senior Marketing Manager for JELD-WEN Canada. "The work that they do to empower families in communities across the country is first rate and we look forward to continuing our relationship."

JELD-WEN Canada has been a supporter of Habitat for Humanity both locally and nationwide for a number of years. JELD-WEN's dedication to the charitable organization has ramped up since the company's 50th anniversary in 2010 and has continued with increased product and manpower contributions. Habitat for Humanity currently receives annual support as one of JELD-WEN's primary charities.

"JELD-WEN has been very good to us over the years," says Director of Construction for Manitoba, Vern Koop. "Not did they supply all the windows and doors for the blitz, but a sponsorship package and the site sign as well." Koop continues, "JELD-WEN also donate heavily to the ReStore (Habitat for Humanity's retail chain of rescued goods) and supply volunteers, they're a great friend of the organization."

Habitat for Humanity is an international organization founded in Georgia in 1976, built on the idea of partnership housing where volunteers give a hand up to those in need. The Manitoba chapter of Habitat was incorporated in 1987 and shares the Habitat for Humanity International mission of mobilizing volunteers and community partners to work with people from all walks of life to build decent, affordable housing for purchase by low-income working families.
