JEMS/PennWell Corporation Announces 2016 JEMS Games Competition Winners

Baltimore, Maryland, March 3, 2016 (Newswire.com) - ​PennWell Corporation announces today the winning teams in the 2016 JEMS Games Advanced Clinical Competition held during the 35th Annual EMS Today Conference and Exposition, an industry-leading event that provides quality education and training for emergency medical services (EMS) professionals worldwide.

A highlight of the three-day conference was the final round of the JEMS Games, held on Friday, Feb. 26, where the top three competing teams from Thursday’s preliminary rounds were challenged with the task of providing quality patient care during a realistic, multiple-patient incident designed to test each team’s skills as EMS professionals. This year’s final scenario saw each team dispatched to a rock concert to serve as a detail unit for incidents that arise at the venue, such as intoxication, a set collapse and crowd control.

The 2016 JEMS Games winning teams:

·       2nd Place (Silver Medal) Team: Lucas County EMS – Team 1 (Lucas County, Ohio)

·       3rd Place (Bronze Medal) Team: Lucas County EMS – Team 2 (Lucas County, Ohio)

In the first two minutes of the final round, each team was presented with a male who demonstrated slurred speech and weakness, and his wife indicated he was acting ‘unusual.’ The teams were challenged to render care to this suspected stroke patient all while the band continued to play. Things became more complicated after a lighting truss crashed down, injuring three people, and with additional intoxicated patients and bystanders with minor injuries coming onto the scene. A total of seven patients required some type of care during the 20-minute scenario, offering teams the opportunity to score points by exhibiting top-notch patient care skills.
