Representatives from the UT Dallas School of Management and Jindal Global Business School (JGBS) near Delhi, India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, opening doors for cooperative efforts between the two institutions.
The partnership provides the framework for the two schools to develop collaborative initiatives on faculty and student exchange programs, teaching and research projects, conferences, publications and continuing education programs.
"We welcome innovation, are on the lookout for opportunities to collaborate and take pride in our multidisciplinary approach to teaching and learning," UT Dallas President David Daniel said. "This agreement with Jindal Global University (JGU) touches on all those values. I look forward to the rewards this partnership will yield for both universities."
"Jindal Global Business School and the UT Dallas School of Management have come together with a view to promote global business education in a multi-disciplinary context. This collaboration will bring together faculty and students from both schools to create knowledge and share experiences that will address the problems of business and industry in India and the U.S.," said Professor C. Raj Kumar, vice chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University (http://www.jgu.edu.in).
"We look forward to working with Jindal Global University (http://www.jgu.edu.in) to establish new initiatives and exchanges that will benefit our students and faculty," School of Management Dean Hasan Pirkul said. "This partnership reflects the strong commitment of both Jindal Global University and the School of Management to promote global education."
"We are delighted to collaborate with the UT Dallas School of Management," Vice Dean of JGBS (http://www.jgbs.edu.in) Dr. Michael J. Barnes said. "The agreement is precisely in line with our mission. We intend to positively influence the practice of global business and to create new knowledge and value in the profession of management. We will do this through fundamental and applied research and through free discussion in the classroom with global business practitioners and scholars alike."
The agreement provides faculty and students a wonderful opportunity to be associated with JGU, an outstanding new institution located in the world's largest democracy, School of Management Professor Gregory Dess said. Dr. Dess is an internationally recognized business strategy expert who holds the UT Dallas Andrew R. Cecil Endowed Chair in Applied Ethics.
"Students will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and question their assumption bases and beliefs in an international context," Dess said. "Given that we all compete in globally competitive environments, such experience should give them a competitive advantage in employment and career opportunities."

"Also, learning in an international context will heighten their cultural sensitivity and awareness."
The director of the School of Management's International Management Programs, Dr. Habte Woldu, concurred. He said that School of Management students who participate in foreign exchange programs with JGBS will benefit in many ways.

"Students will have a better understanding of Indian national and organizational cultures and increased employability in India as well as globally," Woldu said.
"India's economy has become very dynamic and attractive for foreign direct investment. It's socio-economic and political conditions are changing dramatically," Woldu said. "In our recent study trip to several Indian conglomerates, we realized that the West, including the U.S., has a lot to learn from them, not only to be able to operate and succeed in India, but also to learn how to develop long-term business objectives and adopt a forward-looking business strategy."
The JGU/UT Dallas partnership will help enhance the university's links with an important part of the BRIC [Brazil, Russia, India and China] countries, Dr. Mike Peng, global strategy expert and the Provost's Distinguished Professor of Global Strategy at UT Dallas, said.
"This collaboration will also enhance faculty's global expertise in general and India and South Asia-specific expertise in particular," Peng said. "As increasing research attention is devoted to emerging economies such as India, access to high quality databases and company sites in India, via this agreement, will enhance our ability to publish world-class research."
JGU was launched in 2009 with generous funding from Naveen Jindal, a leading industrialist and member of India's Parliament. Jindal's leadership skills and desire to make a difference were unmistakable when he was a UT Dallas MBA student in the early 1990s. Today, his passion for impacting generations of students continues with this newly signed partnership between the Indian university he endowed in his father's name, and his alma mater, the UT Dallas School of Management.
JGU's founding chancellor, Jindal credits UT Dallas with providing him the ability to make many significant changes when he returned to his native country.
The vision of JGU is to promote courses, programs, curriculum, research, collaborations and interaction on a global basis. The university also has established collaborations with Yale University, Indiana University and the University of Michigan.
