The Junior League of Long Island (JLLI) is hosting its annual recruiting event on Saturday, September 8, 2012. The half-day seminar, known as "Super Saturday," introduces the Junior League and its many local community projects to new members. The event will take place at JLLI headquarters located at 1395 Old Northern Blvd., Roslyn, NY 11576. Registration is required.

The Junior League of Long Island strives to be the organization of choice for voluntarism and community partnerships to help improve the health and well-being of women and children on Long Island. Membership is open to all Long Island women over the age of 21. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

"The Junior League is a great organization for Long Island women who want to make a real difference in their community. JLLI members are active in a variety of volunteer projects that impact the health and wellness of local women and children. Our membership encompasses the full spectrum of Long Island women, including recent college graduates, professional executives, stay-at-home moms, and retirees," said Kelly Morgano, President of The Junior League of Long Island. "While making a difference in the community, Junior League members are also networking and developing new skills that can supplement their workplace skills, such as budgeting, proposal writing, project development and public speaking."

New JLLI members entering their Provisional Year will take part in the Junior League community project, Kids in the Kitchen. Successfully reaching thousands of children over the last six years, this Junior League Project is an interactive event that teaches young children the benefits of proper nutrition and exercise. Kids in the Kitchen, a signature project of The Association of Junior Leagues International Inc. (AJLI), helps communities across four countries address the consequences of childhood obesity and poor nutrition. More than 200 Junior Leagues participate in this grassroots initiative to empower children to adopt healthy lifestyles.

Since its inception in 1951, JLLI has been instrumental in many community projects, including:

Community Playground Project: A two-year project that plans, coordinates and constructs a playground for a deserving Long Island community.

Compute the Future: JLLI provides a complete Computer Center for a Long Island-based, non-profit organization in need of computer equipment.

First Step: Addresses the needs of women who require professional clothing as they re-enter the workforce and gain independence.

Community Service Fund: JLLI awards grants to non-profit Long Island organizations in need of assistance.

The Junior League of Long Island is designated as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.
