Junkyard Extreme Burgers and Brats Franchises Five Years After Guy Fieri Kicked Open That Door
LANCASTER, Ore., May 28, 2019 (Newswire.com) - To date, roughly 27 restaurants in Oregon have been featured on The Food Network hit show "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." "To get the nod to be in this elite class was almost overwhelming," say owners Craig and Kim Zumwalt of JunkYard Extreme Burgers and Brats.
According to co-founder Craig Zumwalt, "It really turbo-charges your establishment. But then everyone is gunning for you to live up to the hype and you better bring it. Being featured on the show, you have a de-facto national ad campaign and that is awesome. If you aren't what the folks expected, they won't come back and that big bump in sales and notoriety will fade as fast as it came."
After filming the episode, Fieri and co-owners Craig and Kim chatted like a couple of kids, seeing who could make the other laugh the hardest. "He was our kind of guy," the Zumwalts said. "Someone you would love to have as a bud." Through the fun, Fieri suggested the JunkYard brand should grow because he believed the whole concept was a big winner and easily replicated: "You might think about franchising," he told the Zumwalts.
After a year of filings, paperwork, consultants, attorneys and a myriad of legalities, Junkyard Extreme Burgers and Brats is now beginning the franchise journey.
Owners Craig and Kim Zumwalt are Oregon natives and would like to see a 2,000-to-3,000-square-foot flagship in the greater Salem area. Craig and Kim believe Salem's geographical makeup is very advantageous to the expansion of the brand. but are open to other locations as well. JunkYards will work best where JunkYards are, which means "just about anywhere," adds team Zumwalt.
Salem shares a kind of kinship with the original Junkyard that has been operating in Lancaster for 13 years. The Zumwalts' unincorporated town was slated back in the day to be a contender for the state capital of Oregon. "This is the reason for Lancaster Drive in Salem," Kim says.
The Junkyard in Lancaster serves up big crowds from all the surrounding areas and beyond. JunkYard staffers are always being asked, "When are you coming to our town?" JunkYard hopes to fill requests in multiple areas and states in time. Craig and Kim's goal is to not just sell franchises, but moreover to revolutionize All-American cuisine and how it is presented.
Legendary-themed burgers, brats, franks, fried cheese pizza, grilled and melted sandwiches, exotic fry creations, salads, craft beer, spirits, heated patio and more sets the scene for the outlandish JunkYard Extreme Burgers and Brats.
Junkyard is looking forward to collaborating with Oregon breweries that have a menu but are looking for the WOW factor to set them apart from the ever-crowded business. Junkyard is also interested in multi-franchise owners looking to add a new twist to their portfolio or the guy or girl that can take their management resume to the freedom of ownership.
