K2 Provides Competence Based DROPs Training
Online, June 26, 2013 (Newswire.com) - It was the first of a number of weekly training courses for managers and supervisors that will train 150 crew members in the first instance with the potential for at least 90 more.
The two day courses give practical and theoretical training and assessment and are an extension on the basic DROPs awareness half day courses for oil and gas. K2 worked closely with the client's HSE department to produce a competency standard which enables crew members to carry out regular inspections of high risk areas in a drilling environment. Working from this, K2's in-house Competency Management department generated a detailed training manual covering equipment aboard, as well as assessment materials. The training was carried out by our professionals at the K2 Training Center in Singapore.
The project scope is initially for 150 managers and supervisors on three rigs in the Asia Pacific region. There are plans to extend a one day training course to all rig crew members in the near future, and the initiative may extend to other vessels in the fleet.
"As an accredited training company with our own dedicated Competency Management department, we have an established track record of developing bespoke training packages, including a DROPs competence standard for our inspectors. However this is the first time we have worked with a client to develop their DROPs competency," says Daniel Rogers, K2 Group General Manager, "It has been very useful to get their feedback on how they would like their crew to be trained. It provides an insight into how our clients operate that will allow us to deliver a better service in the future."
