Katherine Brooks Enters Talks to Direct New Indie Feature Film

Award winning Katherine Brooks, has entered talks with KAM Entertainment to direct the dramedy "Coming Out for Christmas", a thought provoking portrayal of the modern American family.

Award winning Katherine Brooks, director of independent films such as Loving Annabelle and Waking Madison, has entered talks with KAM Entertainment to direct the dramedy "Coming Out for Christmas". KAM Entertainment, founded by Andrew McCarrick in January of 2013, has been developing the project since the company's founding. "Coming Out for Christmas" is set to film in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in November and December of 2013. Casting and location scouting for the project is still on-going.

Brooks moved into directing feature films after receiving critical praise for her short films Finding Kate and Dear Emily. Brooks's work has been screened at over 100 festivals around the world, and she has garnered several awards, including "Emerging Filmmaker Award" at the Italian Film Festival and the "Grand Jury Prize" at the Chicago Film Festival. Brooks's first feature film, Loving Annabelle, debuted at the prestigious Cinequest Film Festival in 2006; the film won the Audience Award. In addition, Loving Annabelle won Best Feature Film at Melbourne Film Festival (2006), Barcelona Film Festival (2006) and Atlanta Film Festival (2006), and the Jury Award at Paris Cinema Festival (2006); the film picked up six audience awards and four Jury Awards over the course of the six-month festival run.

Brooks is just off of her most recent documentary projects "Waiting for Gaga" and "Face 2 Face". "Waiting for Gaga" profiles Brooks along with some of Lady Gaga's most devoted little monsters as they attend the born this way ball together; while "Face 2 Face" follows Brooks on a three-month summer trip around the country, meeting 50 of her Facebook friends who said yes when she posed the question as her status, "Who would like to spend a day with me and I'll come visit you". The idea was born after the director had a surgery, and despite having 4700 friends on Facebook, stated that she felt alone. Some of Brooks's other projects include "Waking Madison", "Loving Annabelle", "Dear Emily", and "Finding Kate"; along with numerous TV credits.

KAM Entertainment founder and CEO, Andrew McCarrick, was ecstatic with the possibility of Katherine Brooks directing the project. "I'm certainly eager for Katherine to direct the project"; McCarrick said, "She does absolutely amazing work. I absolutely loved 'Waking Madison'; it is truly an incredible film. She is an extraordinary director, and I think she can do great things with 'Coming Out for Christmas'." McCarrick is the project's Executive in Charge of Production, one of the project's co-writers and one of the producers.

"Coming Out for Christmas" is a thought provoking portrayal of the modern American family. The film tells the story of Jennifer Stahl a lost fourteen year old girl who has been battling a bout of depressing. She spends most of her time sulking in her bedroom, alone. Ever since the divorce of her parents, and her separation from her much preferred father, she has turned inward, hiding her emotions from everyone around her. Now her mother packs her and her two annoying sisters in to a car, and drives for four hours to their grandparent's house for Christmas vacation. There is a bright spot in all of it though, Jennifer gets to have the emotional reunion with her father that she's been longing for, but her glorious reunion is cut short when she learns her father isn't quite who she thought she was.
