Kathleen Kirkwood - Bringing the Hollywood Look to Your Doorstep

Kathleen Kirkwood began her career from a New York City walk-up and has gone from shoulder pads to Glow Protection®, an innovative new way of blocking perspiration.

March 9, 2010 - What began as a way of upgrading her clothing to create a shapely and slimmer look catapulted into a full time career for Kathleen Kirkwood. A former Ford model living in a walkup on East 64th Street in New York City, Kathleen designed the original clip on shoulder pads.

After seeing what enthusiasm her friends were showing for the shoulder pads, she decided to try and market her Pints-of-Pads®, which came in a pint sized container similar to ice cream pints. Soon Bloomingdales started selling her product after seeing what a hit the shoulder pads were creating.

This initiated a call from Oprah to Kathleen, for a women in business show. As her popularity increased from being a guest on the Oprah show, QVC TV discovered Kathleen and offered a venue for her products. It has been smooth sailing since and the new products she has designed have shown women the world over that it is possible to have a shape no matter their size.

Her first U.S. Patent, the Cookie-CamiTM is an example of this concept. The 2 in 1 camisole features a patented engineering that is available for all sizes including 1X to 3X. A camisole that offers full support and a shapely figure without the need for a bra, it is perfect for wearing under spaghetti straps. The cami creates a body lift while providing comfort as well.

Her company, Kirkwood International, is a producer of private label shape wear for many big name companies today including Victoria's Secret, Norm Thompson and Chico's. The original shoulder pads that started her career have been re-launched under a new trademark. SLIM-easeTM, now comes in a vinyl bag with her famous trademark cartoon character.

Kathleen explains her original concept for shapewear by saying, "Women are using our shape wear for the shoulder to look young again! Remember, gravity doesn't just hit-the-derriere; the upper body needs a boost too!" This is the basis for the beginning of Kirkwood International and the line of products provided to achieve the best shape possible.

Kathleen and her husband, Leon Samuel have created a new product. Patenting Glow Protection®, a way of blocking perspiration that is chemical free, is featured in a liner and tee shirt that can be worn underneath any type of clothing. This is a product designed with the help of her husband that protect clothing from perspiration stains and odor. The new line will be featured on QVC as well as specially chosen department stores. In addition, it will be offered on her website, www.kathleenkirkwood.com.

Kathleen spends time helping the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), which teaches business start-up to inner city kids. A firm believer in entrepreneur opportunities, she also is editor of Entrepreneur Watch. Offering subscribers insider tips on how to become an entrepreneur and use their talents to their advantage is the focus of this email blast.
