"From as far back as I can remember I have wanted to be a lawyer because lawyers help people and get things done."

During her tenure as President of the Massachusetts Bar Association, she led the effort to ensure that civil rights and liberties would not be curtailed by the implementation of the U.S.A. Patriot Act. She also fought for the rights of same-sex couples to marry, supporting the Massachusetts Bar Associations filing of an Amicus Brief in the famed Goodridge case, which culminated in the first decision by a U.S. state’s highest court to allow same-sex couples the right to marry. She noted:

"As a lawyer I represent my individual clients but I also have an obligation to ensure that our judicial system works for everyone."

O’Donnell has been involved in many Pro Bono and community based activities. She is currently a member of the Commission on Judicial Conduct, has previously been a member of The Board of Directors of the Greater Lowell Rape Crisis Services and the Greater Lowell Pastoral Counseling Services, and served on the Board of Directors of Lowell Catholic High School and Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education.
