Kavinsky Tops The Charts with 'Nightcall'

The Playground is proud to host this exciting one off event at KOKO on the 24th March headlined by Kavinsky, along side three of the Ed Banger Crew- Mickey Moonlight, Breakbot and Feadz, as well as support from Yelle and Unicorn Kid.

CURRENTLY standing at number seven in the iTunes electronic charts behind Chase & Status, as well as having an astounding 8 million views on his latest release 'Nightcall' for the soundtrack to hit film DRIVE, the French-electro producer KAVINSKY shows us why he is ranked among the world greats such as Justice, SebastiAn and Mr Oizo. In a market that seems filled with dubstep, this retrofuturistic, sleak-pan European sound cuts through with ease.

WITH production from Daft Punk, a mix down by SebastiAn and with remixes from Breakbot and Dustin N Guyen (of Justice), Kavinksy has certainly managed to court every talented Frenchman in Paris to make this every bit heartwarming as it is epic . He's also called upon the talents of fellow electro-honeymooner Lovefoxxx to lend her lovely vocal stylings to the creeping cat of a track that is 'Nightcall'. And what a creeping cat this track is. If Kavinsky here is trying to evoke a kind of night feeling, of the dark air and rushing blank road orange streetlights, the quiet and cold if it all, then he has done it very well.

IT begs the question of how such a film only got one oscar nomination? Are the Oscars rigged? Eligible songs from Elton John, Lady Gaga, Mary J Blige, Elvis Costello, Chris Cornell, Zooey Deschanel and Will.i.am all missed out on nominations because of the way this Oscar shortlist worked out. Drive really should have had that one in the bag. It's likely too dark and just too darn cool for Academy members to embrace. Well, we say it's the telecast's loss!

WITH such recognition and rise to fame, Kavinskys days of posting deformed genitalia on Oizo's page or gay porn on Sebastian's myspace page may seem inconceivable today. He first appeared on our TV screens as a collaborator on Mr Oizos world famous "Analog Worms Attack". Kavinsky was Oizos housemate, convinced into wearing a wig and racing fat slugs in the video. It matters not. What does matter is how Kavinsky has learned and adapted from the french electro pioneers from his very beginnings.

A lot of people think that Kavinsky is on Ed Banger for these reasons. But in fact, he knew FEADZ, MICKEY MOONLIGHT and BREAKBOT before all of this. That's why it only seems fair that we bring you three of the Ed Banger crew with their arpeggiated synths, conjoined with beats as if they were transposed from an epic 80's TV show. Expect to hear new tracks from Mickey Moonlight's debut album 'and The Time Axis Manipulation Corporation'.

THE final French connective comes from electro-pop YELLE. Her new track 'comme un enfant' consists of vigorous synths and a fluctuating beat pattern, such a sophisticated instrumentation pairs surprisingly well with the trio's girlish vocals. Despite the language barrier, you still feel mesmerised by the nimbleness of this record.

THEY say every musician needs a gimmick, and UNICORN KID has one in the form of a lion hat. Recently signed to Ministry Of Sound, Oliver Sabin - a one-man producer of Casiopop electronica from Leith has certainly made an impression, with a number of BBC Radio 1 appearances and a BBC Maida Vale Studios session for Rob da Bank. Combining the bleeping soundtrack of a very early Super Mario game with throbbing house and electro breakdowns.

CAPTIVATING music that speaks so loudly, electro is back with serious momentum as THE PLAYGROUND embraces some of the industry's hottest electro acts at Camden's infamous KOKO on Saturday 24th March.

KOKO can be found at 1a Camden High Street, London, NW1 7JE. Doors open at 9pm and tickets are on sale now via www.theplayground.co.uk or on www.ticketweb.co.uk
