Assam police has joined hands with Kaziranga National Park as the park gears up to face this year's floods. Recently, a couple days back a meeting was held among senior police officials of Golaghat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Karbi Anglong districts and the national park authorities regarding this.

An official of this national park informed that in the meeting it was decided that the police from four districts are asked to intensify patrolling near the national park making sure that the animals which stray out of the park during floods are not harmed. He said, "Already Section 144 has been clamped in the areas near the national park banning the gathering of more than five persons at a time and carrying of sharp weapons. Speed of vehicles plying on the NH 37 has also been restricted".

He further told that village defence parties that are situated on the edge line of this Indian Wildlife Sanctuary and Karbi Anglong have also been told to keep a watch on animals. He added, "The floodwater has not yet entered the park but with heavy rains in the last few days there was a possibility of the park getting flooded any time".

Apart from Kaziranga authorities and the police that are taking effective steps ahead for wildlife conservation the NGOs working in Kaziranga are also gearing up to face the floods. Moreover, the wildlife trust of India-run Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC), which is an International Fund for Animal Welfare, is planning to set up at least three temporary rescue centres- at Kohora, Agaratoli and Bagori ranges of the park at flood time.
