KBE Building Corp. Runs to Support Grieving Children

Annual Race for The Cove held on Oct. 18

The loss of a loved one often leads to sadness and isolation, especially for children. To help ensure that Connecticut families have the proper support network, KBE Building Corporation (KBE) employees and their families and friends raised money for The Cove Center for Grieving Children through the organization’s annual race on Oct. 18.

The Cove was founded in 1994 by a family coping with the loss of a wife and mother to cancer. Since obtaining 501(c)3 status in 1998, The Cove has become the Northeast’s largest children’s multisite grief program, serving families, schools, and community-based programs throughout CT.

The Cove provides complimentary support to those grieving in our community, and that means that the community has to support The Cove as well. The annual race is a healthy and fun way to give back while strengthening our own team in the process.

Racing for a Good Cause

KBE has participated in Race for The Cove every year since 2010. This year’s event was held on Oct. 18 along the picturesque Hammonassett Beach State Park in Madison, CT. KBE’s Senior Management Team donated an amount equal to the total donations and registration fees paid by KBE employees and their loved ones, bringing the firm’s total contribution to $2,330.

“The Cove provides complimentary support to those grieving in our community, and that means that the community has to support The Cove as well,” said Simon F. Etzel, Jr., KBE principal owner and SVP and Chairman of The Cove’s Board of Directors. “The annual race is a healthy and fun way to give back while strengthening our own team in the process.”

All Because of 50 Ways

KBE’s annual participation in Race for The Cove is possible because of the firm’s corporate philanthropic program, 50 Ways to Make a Difference.

Established in 2009 to celebrate the firm’s new ownership, name change, and 50 years in business, 50 Ways has helped KBE associates donate more than $1.7 million and 9,000 volunteer hours to charitable causes benefiting children, seniors, and military veterans in Connecticut and Maryland.

Employees at KBE’s MD office are also helping the firm achieve its 2015 goal of 2,500 volunteer hours and thousands of dollars in donations to causes that benefit the community. Most recently, KBE team members participated in the Washington, DC biathlon to benefit wounded veterans and volunteered at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Columbia, MD to help provide homes for needy families.

Both KBE’s CT and MD offices are looking forward to the firm’s signature philanthropic event, Gift of Gobble, which will take place in November. Through Gift of Gobble, KBE prepares and delivers Thanksgiving meal kits to needy families in CT and MD.
