KBE Building Corporation Breaks Ground for Maryland Naval Facility
KBE Building Corporation (KBE) has broken ground for construction of the new Joint Commissary and Navy Exchange in Annapolis, Maryland.
Online, March 18, 2013 (Newswire.com) - KBE Building Corporation (KBE) (www.kbebuilding.com) has broken ground for construction of the new Joint Commissary and Navy Exchange in Annapolis, Maryland.
The $27 million project will consist of a 51,000 square-foot Joint Commissary and a new 98,000 square-foot Navy Exchange with a garden center. The commissary will include a retail sales area; storage for nonperishable and refrigerated foods; a bakery/deli; produce, meat, and dairy departments; administrative areas; operational support areas; and staging/receiving areas. The Navy Exchange will include a barber shop, beauty salon, optical shop, jewelry store, main retail sales area, food court, administrative areas, operational support areas, and a stock room.
The project is being designed and constructed for LEED Silver certification.
KBE was awarded this project by the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA), the administrator of the construction. Recently, the firm was awarded the construction of another commissary for the Naval Submarine Base in Groton, CT.
KBE participated in a ground breaking ceremony on February 1, 2013.
Project completion is planned for spring 2014.
