Online, June 7, 2011 (Newswire.com) - RALEIGH, NC - Keep NC Beautiful (www.keepncbeautiful.org) kicks off its Annual Tarp Awareness campaign the month of June by making free tarps available to landfill and convenience center users in 23 counties across the state. The goal of the campaign is to remind drivers to properly secure cargo in truck beds to prevent accidents and reduce roadside litter.
Keep NC Beautiful (KNCB) and the NC Department of Transportation are partnering to provide the tarps and educational fliers about General Statue 14-399 which makes it illegal to haul an improperly secured load carrying penalties up to a $2,000 fine, community service work and one point on a motorist's driver license upon conviction.
Each county receives a supply of tarps and arranges a designated Tarp Awareness event under the direction of a local KNCB affiliate, Solid Waste Department or landfill center. Tarps are available on a first come first serve basis to truck owners entering the landfill or convenience center.
