Keith Padgett Selected First President of Oceanside Promise

New organization helps high school students prepare for college

Keith Padgett, CEO of Pro Kids | The First Tee of San Diego, which prepares disadvantaged youth for success in life through education and the game of golf, has been elected as the first President of Oceanside Promise. Oceanside Promise is a newly established foundation that seeks to help students within the Oceanside Unified School District graduate from high school and continue their education through college.

Padgett, born and raised in East County and UCSD graduate, has always had a passion for helping others. With over 40 years of non-profit experience, Padgett began his philanthropic career as owner of two treatment centers for emotionally disturbed boys in East County. He was also CEO of The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito for 11 years as well as CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters in Sacramento, Seattle and Los Angeles.

“We’re fortunate to name someone like Keith as our first president because of his life-long commitment to helping underprivileged youth,” says Duane Coleman, Superintendent of the Oceanside Unified School District and founder of Oceanside Promise.

Padgett’s zeal for helping children stay on the right path originates from his father and role model. As a child, Padgett watched his father mentor a neighborhood bully, who, through Padgett’s father’s guidance, changed his behavior and left behind his bullying ways. Padgett saw first-hand how a little support and counseling could make a huge impact on a child’s life.

Coleman hopes to partner with Cal State University San Marcos and Mira Costa College to offer students in the Oceanside School District guaranteed college admission with satisfaction of general education requirements. Coleman also sits on the Pro Kids board of directors.
