Helping make sure every vote is counted Kent Younce has begun serving as the newly elected Chairman of the Tennessee State Election Commission.
Online, July 17, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Kent Younce has begun serving as the newly elected Chairman of the Tennessee State Election Commission. As chairman, he is working to help ensure a fair and legal election process for all Tennessee voters and to correct any potential election irregularities. Younce will serve a one-year term.
When asked today about his appointment, Mr. Younce said, "I am very honored to serve as chairman, especially in this important election year. By serving on the commission, I can help make sure that everyone's vote is counted and that voters' privileges are protected. I want to do everything I can to see that the integrity of election process continues for generations to come."
Although this is his first term as chairman, Mr. Younce has served on the seven-member election commission since 2008. He is also currently serving in his sixth year on the La Follette Utility Board in La Follette, Tennessee. "I feel it's my responsibility to give back to the community in which I live and have raised my family," he continued. "Ensuring fair treatment for my neighbors is just one way I feel I can do that. It's why I've gotten personally involved."
The Tennessee State Election Commission is the only state commission appointed by the Tennessee General Assembly. The commission works to maintain uniformity in election procedures and to preserve the integrity of the ballot. Its primary duty is to appoint county election commissioners in Tennessee's 95 counties. Each county election commission is comprised of five commissioners of which three members are members of the majority party, and two are members of the minority party. The commissions encourage all residents to register to vote and to exercise that right and freedom during every city, county, and general election.
The next meeting of the Tennessee State Election Commission will be held on Monday, August 13, 2012, at 12:00 noon CDT, 7th floor conference room, William R. Snodgrass - TN Tower, in Nashville.
