Kevin P. McCabe, Top Middlesex County Democratic Leader Receives Labor Award
Edison, N.J., May 6, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Kevin P. McCabe, chairman, Middlesex County Democratic Organization, received the Hubert H. Humphrey Friend of Labor Award from the Middlesex and Somerset counties AFL-CIO Labor Council, April 24 at the 33rd Annual Awards and Scholarship Brunch.
McCabe, president of Edison, New Jersey-based Carpenter Contractor Trust (CCT) (www.cctnynj.com), received the award for his decades-long effort on behalf of organized labor.
"Kevin has been at the front of the line supporting labor. As a former commissioner of labor, Kevin has always worked to protect the rights of labor throughout the state, and as president of the CCT, he tirelessly promotes the great work of union carpenters. He is also a pivotal leader in helping bring younger members into the Democratic Party, which has always been a strong supporter of labor."

“Kevin has been at the front of the line supporting labor,” said Tom Tighe, president of the Middlesex and Somerset counties AFL-CIO Labor Council. “As a former commissioner of labor, Kevin has always worked to protect the rights of labor throughout the state, and as president of the CCT, he tirelessly promotes the great work of union carpenters. He is also a pivotal leader in helping bring younger members into the Democratic Party, which has always been a strong supporter of labor.”
The award McCabe received is named after former U.S. Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, a strong advocate of the labor movement.
“I am truly gratified to receive this award,” said McCabe. “However, it is the people and their day-to-day efforts, who support the strength, dignity and economic stability that labor provides that are the real recipients of this honor.
“This is a particularly important moment in the labor movement because of the threats we face from legislation and some elected officials which would undermine the strong middle-class gains to which labor has contributed for many decades. We must ensure that our voice and message are heard by all. It is because of labor that we have a strong, viable middle-class in America.”
Vincent M. Lane, business manager and secretary-treasurer, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, Local 711, was also honored with the Labor Person of the Year Award.
During the event, several Raymond A. Peterson Scholarship awards were presented and a moment of silence was held as part of Workers Memorial Day, when the AFL-CIO council commemorates those who have died in construction accidents throughout the state.
