Key West Stages A Poker Run Unlike One Ever Done Before
Poker runs are a popular way to have a great time while raising money for charity. This May, Key West, Florida will be the destination for the first ever "Air-Land-Sea" poker run.
Online, May 22, 2014 (Newswire.com) - There is no place in the world better suited for a charity fundraiser poker run than the Florida Keys. Stretching 150 miles from Miami to Key West, it is the perfect length to take a day or two to cover while enjoying yourself and stopping at the check points. Each year there are several different poker runs that take place, most via the Overseas Highway but some that take advantage of the beautiful water. This May, however, takes the concept of island vacations and poker runs to a whole new level, literally, by introducing the first ever "Air-Land-Sea" poker run to held in the world.
"This truly is a first of its kind event held anywhere, said Jackie Jones, Event Manager for the Florida Powerboat Club which has created this event. "Many of our members love going to the southernmost island because they know that the Key West restaurants are some of the best in the world. We wanted to do something special, and since we knew a lot of them also have great cars and exciting aircraft as well as their boats, this event basically created itself."
Over the last several years many people around the country have discovered Key West thanks to it being the number one destination for island weddings. With May being one of the busiest months for weddings in that tropical paradise, any of the out-of-towners that are there to see their friends get married will have the added bonus of being able to see something that maybe truly unique to the rest of the world, but is just another day in paradise for those who live there.
"It seems like every day there is something out of the ordinary happening down here," said Chef Brendan Orr of the Roof Top Cafй, one of the most popular Key West restaurants. "In fact, the extraordinary happens so often down here we start to take it for granted. Whether it is drag queens running down Duval Street or a food fight between the locals and the Coast Guard to celebrate our independence, nothing makes us bat an eye anymore." Even he had to admit, though, that someone who happens to visit Key West Florida for the first time during the weekend of May 16th-18th will see something that even has never experienced. That just goes to show that no two island vacations are ever the same.
