"Being fans of hip hop ourselves, we know how difficult it is to break into the music industry," said Mo Gutierrez of King Ice. "There is so much talent out there that hasn't been discovered yet. We wanted to give unknown rappers an opportunity to share their music with our social network. For our third rap contest we had several excellent entries but M.O.E. really impressed us with his lyrics and flow."
The first place entry was submitted by M.O.E. a teenage rapper inspired by 2Pac, Eminem, Dr. Dre and B.I.G. among others. The two minute video was shot in his room using barebones equipment, a testament to the contest's broad reach. Second place was awarded to L. Rucus, a college student out of California who is balancing school and a music career. Third place went to Shoa-Tyme out of the east coast who has had become a regular participant of the company's contests. ShoaTyme also placed in third place in the second rap battle.
