Labor Day Book Giveaway, Author Gives Away His Book To Expose Florida's Department Of Children And Families
Online, August 25, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Kevin L. Ramos officially releases THE DEPARTMENT on August 10, 2013. This compelling novel chronicles the life of rookie Child Protective Investigator (CPI) Jeremiah Abundo and his experiences working in Miami Dade, Florida. Through his unforgettable experiences as a CPI, he tries to maintain a semblance of balance between his demanding job and his personal life. THE DEPARTMENT also centers around 15-year old Quintavia "Queen" Collins a brilliant, young junior attending Miami Northwestern Senior High. When these two dynamic people meet, they will never be the same. THE DEPARTMENT addresses a number of issues surrounding this agency from race relations to unfair work conditions. "When people read this book-with or without a background in child welfare, they really understand that this job is a difficult one." Ramos states, "...year after year and day after day, child welfare workers give so much of themselves to protect children with little recognition to themselves.". Since May 2013, there have been six children that have died in the State of Florida: each child had prior involvement with DCF. "Unfortunately, DCF line staff are left to shoulder the blame when cases go bad; however, decisions are very rarely made in a vacuum at this agency. This book was written to honor their efforts"
THE DEPARTMENT will give you a better understanding on how it feels to be a child welfare professional. In the past, most child welfare stories have portrayed state social workers as callous, uncaring individuals; this book casts these workers in a different light. THE DEPARTMENT is a MUST read for anyone interested in discovering the beauty of human perseverance. THE DEPARTMENT is available in softbound ($16.99) and Kindle ($9.99) editions.
