Lacquer-ware is called by the sinitic compound "Shikki". It is the object covered with a resin-based varnish derived from a tree indigenous to Asia known as "Urushi" in Japanese. Urushi is a kind of natural lacquer collected from the Urushi tree, like collecting gum from rubber tree. This lacquer produces a durable finish that is resistant to damage by water, acid, alkali or abrasion. In Japan, Lacquer has been used for more than a thousand
years for various purposes from Buddha figures to plates and bento boxes.

Yuji Ataka, director, wants everyone to know the elegance of lacquer-ware as the Japanese "Culinary Arts" and its practicality with many benefits.
