Large Numbers of Volunteers from The Healing Place Assist in Tornado Cleanup

Online, April 25, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Gov. Beverly Perdue says her tour of tornado-ravaged portions of North Carolina nearly brought her to tears as over 20 people were killed and hundreds of homes were damaged when Saturday's tornadoes touched down across the state. In Raleigh, the clients of The Healing Place of Wake County did their part in the cleanup of the destruction caused by those tornadoes.

"We were incredibly pleased that so many of the clients volunteered to help," said Terri Conyers, Development Associate at The Healing Place. "The recovery program at The Healing Place teaches that everyone should help their fellow citizens and this was a perfect opportunity for the clients to give back to the community. Approximately half of the volunteers that showed up during the first two days of cleanup were from The Healing Place of Wake County.

Brenda Byrd was extremely pleased with the work that the volunteers from The Healing Place did at her sister's house on Marlborough Rd. Ms. Byrd stated "they were wonderful. If they had not shown up, I don't know what we would have done. We could not have hired anyone that would have worked any harder than they did. My husband had been cutting trees for several days and the men from The Healing Place moved the trees and raked the yard. I asked them if they wanted money and they turned me down. The guys said if I would like to help, just send a contribution to The Healing Place. "
