Largest Bank Robbery in History Described in New Book The Great Heist
Online, November 27, 2013 (Newswire.com) - On a sunny September day in 1930, six gangsters robbed the Lincoln National Bank of 2.7 million dollars, the largest take in history. Most incredibly, the money was returned by none other than Al Capone himself. The story is revealed in the latest book by Jeff McArthr, The Great Heist - The Story of the Biggest Bank Robbery in History.
The investigation led detectives to the rough streets of East St. Louis and Chicago, where they discovered that some of the bandits had also pulled off the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. In over their heads, the investigators were going to have to use some of the same tactics gangsters used against them.
The book describes the unfolding mystery and the dynamic characters in detail. Some of the more famous individuals involved with the case include William Jennings Bryan, Fred Burke, Eliot Ness, and Al Capone. Other less famous, but equally fascinating characters include Al Capone's long lost brother, who was a Prohibition officer in Nebraska; Robert Isham Randolph, who used his inherited wealth to start the Chicago crime fighting group the Secret Six; and Max Towle, the county attorney who ran the gambling rackets in Nebraska's capital, and who was willing to charge gangsters he knew did not rob the bank in order to extort from the mob.
McArthur is the author of the best-selling book Pro Bono - The 18-Year Defense of Caril Ann Fugate, which was about the defense team of Charles Starkweather's ex-girlfriend who was with the murderer during his killing spree. He is also the writer of the Relic Worlds series, and The Table of Truth. The Great Heist and McArthur's past work can all be found on Amazon, and at the Bandwagon website: www.bandwagononline.com.
