Las Vegas City Council Passes Bill To Enforce Rules On Party Houses
The Las Vegas City Council finally voted on a bill that will better regulated party houses in the city. Homeowners and tenants can expect to face consequences if they break the new law.
Las Vegas, NV, October 8, 2014 (Newswire.com) - On Oct. 1, the Las Vegas City Council voted unanimously on a bill to regulated party houses in the valley. The issue was brought to the Council in August. Homeowners were lease properties to tenants for less than 31 days are now required to get a $500 annual license.
Prior to the bill, tenants who threw parties and received noise complaints wouldn’t result in the landlord getting notified. Now, the landlord must be informed of the complaint within two hours. The bill is also banning major events such as weddings, receptions and other banquet events from being held in a rental property. Tenants are also banned from the use of stereos and musical instruments outdoors.
Owners can only rent out properties with five or less bedrooms to no more than 18 occupants at a time. If property owners are found in violation of these new laws, they are at risk of losing their city-issued rental license.
On the other side of the matter, tenants will also face consequences for violation of the bill. They could be fined up to $1,000 and possible face six months in jail.
An event is defined in the bill as an “unruly gathering” in which eight or more people pose a threat to public safety. This bill will also apply to city residents as well as property owners and tenants.
This issue was nothing new to the Council. The matter was initially brought to their attention back in 2008 but failed to pass. Since then, the problem has gotten so out-of-control that members of the Council overwhelming agreed that it needed to be taken care of.
