eProtex, a data security company specializing in the hidden risks of connected devices, announced today its agreement to provide medical device security for InnoPNT, one of Korea's largest providers of medical IT solutions. Known as IPNT in the global market, the company will employ eProtex solutions in its Korean market as it lays the groundwork for a global expansion.

With some of Korea's most prominent hospitals as its customers, InnoPNT provides real-time patient location and patient care systems using RFID technology, as well as EMR interface, document and image management solutions. In 2009, the company opened an office in San Jose, Calif. to serve the U.S. healthcare market.

"We became aware of eProtex during the HIMSS 2010 Conference and were intrigued by their expertise on connected medical devices as they relate to data security risks," said InnoPNT CEO Kyong Won Lee. "As we refine our product offerings, eProtex provides a critical security link between them and our clients' networks," he added.

"We're honored to serve a company of InnoPNT's magnitude and stellar reputation," said Earl Reber, executive director for eProtex. "We look forward to growing with them and helping advance their solutions in the marketplace."

A subsidiary of Ascension Health, the largest nonprofit healthcare system in the U.S., eProtex was launched in 2009 as an answer to the hidden (and easily-missed) data security risks of network medical devices. Since its inception a year ago, its solutions are being adopted by nearly 100 hospitals throughout the U.S.
