Learn To Meditate And Cut Your Stress Levels
Online, May 15, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Studies have shown that when you learn to meditate, your body starts to relax more often. The stresses and strains associated with our fast paced modern day lives are everywhere. They manifest in traffic jams, queues in fast food restaurants, deadlines for projects, being an unpaid taxi service for our children and many more places.
Some stress is good for us. It provides the nudge we need to get things done in our life. But too much stress has unwanted side effects ranging from the relatively innocent occasional sleepless night right the way through to the potentially deadly heart attack. And, of course, all points in between.
We owe it to ourselves to cut out unnecessary stress but often that's easier said than done.
Which is where the studies that show when you learn to meditate, you automatically start to reduce your stress levels.
Part of this effect is because the simple act of meditation forces you to slow down and relax. Although a teenager may give the opposite impression, it's very difficult to meditate to heavy rock music whilst playing a fast-action video game. Most ancient and modern meditation techniques involve finding a quiet place and cutting yourself off from the rest of the world for anything from a few minutes upwards.
It is this escape to a tranquil spot that researchers have found is the principle benefit of meditation. It allows your body time to regenerate and repair itself in much the same way as deep sleep but in a shorter time period. Unlike sleep, the results of meditation have been shown to last longer than just a few hours. The sense of calmness has been shown to last for days or, with practice, weeks.
This has beneficial effects on all areas of your life. It can reduce workplace stress and make seemingly insurmountable deadlines easier to reach. It can cause you to think twice about taking on extra, often unnecessary, responsibilities or to change the way you prioritize these tasks so that they have less impact on your health.
For many people, modern meditation techniques have surpassed the older techniques. Trevor Johnson of Meditation-Reviews.com says "A lot of people nowadays have started to use binaural beats meditation because it offers all the benefits of more traditional meditation methods with a fast track route that means it doesn't take years to become an accomplished meditator."
