Leading learning platform provider, itslearning, has been shortlisted for the highly prestigious ICT Company of the Year in the 2012 BETT Awards. itslearning is known for its eponymous learning platform, or virtual learning environment (VLE), and was shortlisted in the category for ICT Company of the Year with over £3m turnover.

Dylan Jones, managing director of itslearning UK, believes that commitment to teachers and students was one of the deciding factors in the company's success: "Many of our staff previously worked as teachers and we aim to do much more than simply offer a good product; pedagogical support in the form of face to face, web-based or video training backed up by accreditation helps teachers get the most from their learning platforms, and helps us stand apart as a company. We also work closely with teachers and their learners so that we can make sure we're offering the best functionality, design and interface for all levels of education."

Established in 1998, the influential BETT Awards are judged by teaching and learning professionals and organised by BETT and the British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA). With a stringent judging process, the awards aim to highlight the quality and diversity of educational companies, products and resources.

itslearning's BETT Awards submission included several testimonials from education professionals. Scott Anderson, e-learning manager from Hopwood Hall College, explained why they selected itslearning as their learning platform provider: "In the initial tendering process, itslearning stood out as the prime candidate by listening to what we wanted from the VLE, not just what the VLE can do. As customers, we felt that this set the tone, that the supplier understood our strategic aims and vision. itslearning is by far the complete and comprehensive VLE on the market. It combines a large selection of assessment and content creation tools, with a simple, user friendly interface."

The company's learning platform design is delivered from the Cloud based on the 'Software as a Service' (SaaS) delivery model, meaning that customers do not have to make investments in hardware or software to continue their use of the learning platform and remain up to date. itslearning also places importance on sustainability, with 99 per cent of the electricity used to deliver its service derived from natural hydroelectric power, which harnesses the energy from rivers. Dylan cites this approach as central to the company's ethos: "Sustainability extends beyond seeking environmentally kind methods of delivery; by including technological and pedagogical support free of charge for the life of all subscriptions, we aim to provide schools with a sustainable solution that they can depend on and commit their long term curriculum development to."
