LED Lighting- Now Being Used in the Film Industry

LED lighting is now becoming more commonly used in the film industry. There are many benefits with LEDs as opposed to fluorescent or halogen, and more people are finally starting to take notice.

In 2010, LED production light panels and fixtures, used for videography in motion picture production rose by 17% in the United States alone. With an annual growth rate of 22.7%, until 2017 estimated by ElectroniCast Consultants, a market research firm, this means great things for the future of the entertainment industry, and will save valuable money and power in the process.

LED lighting is being implemented for regular use in set lighting and lighting effects due to its incredible flexibility. The benefits are being seen in both broadcast television and motion pictures, and people everywhere are pleased with the versatility. A single light has the ability to generate an assortment of colors, negating the use of filters, and paired the low operation cost; LEDs are quickly becoming the standard in the film industry.

By consuming less power, the allure of LEDs in this cost-conscious time for lighting sets and soundstages, as well as other locations has become almost too good to be true. This is, not only a result of less power consumption, but also because they run cooler, it saves on air conditioning and also makes for a more enjoyable experience for those under the lights as well.

By utilizing LEDs, production companies also have the added benefits of taking part in the 'green technology' movement which has been very prevalent in recent years. It's a win/win situation for productions as they save money and do their part to help the environment.

"The process of producing video, television programming, and motion picture productions in the field is a challenge because of harsh environment, cramped spaces, limited lighting, and the wiring necessary to connect field production cameras to various devices," Stephen Montgomery, president of international business at ElectroniCast commented. "Innovation components now allow for construction of efficient, durable, quiet-running and lightweight LED light fixtures, which are essential in the field as well as controlled studio environments."
Projected that the 12"x12" or larger LED panel category will take the lead in relative market share of consumption value, Electronicast shows that it has surpassed the Circular/Ring/Fresnel category, moving it to the second place position in market share. When projecting volume, the smaller-sized units will shine in the coming months, however, because of their lower average selling price (ASP) compared to full-sized units; the value is much less in terms of market share.
In 2010 alone, the motion picture industry held the lead with a market share of 60% due to professional-use production lighting and fixtures for television broadcasts, film production, and videographers, and in the coming years, that number is expected to keep growing as the medium becomes more popularly regarded.
