Leveling The Online Playing Field: CEO Jenn Finnell Featured
Online, December 23, 2013 (Newswire.com) - In our technologically driven society, the world wide web provides the largest advertising and marketing platform ever known to mankind. But, how do we use that huge web effectively and to our advantage? The "big boys" seem to know how but what about the small company struggling to find a presence on the internet?
This and many topics dealing with small business and the world wide web were discussed in an online open forum conversation at www.tawkers.com on November 20, between Jennifer Finnell, CEO and founder of Wildflower Enterprises, LLC and Jordan Birnbaum from Tawkers.com, a leading forum in online discussion and debate.
Designed as an open forum, Tawkers.com provided Finnell a platform from which to address issues common to small business in an era of immediate information. Titled, "Important Stuff that's Too Confusing," Finnell and Birnbaum began the discussion while the forum began to comment, each viewer allowed to share his or her own opinion as the conversation continued.
Finnell went on to explain how the web has actually allowed the small business owner the same opportunity that it has afforded corporate America. Corporate America simply has the knowledge (and budget) to make the most of it, whereas the small business owner often does not.
"In order to level the playing field," as Finnell put it, "small business owners must find ways to play on the same turf as the 'big boys', and that turf is the internet."
SEO-or Search Engine Optimization - was one aspect of successful online marketing that was discussed during the fast moving and comprehensive Tawk. Finnell explained during the open forum discussion that the search engines and rankings are as much a friend of the small business as large. "They (search engines) influence practically everything we do. Where we shop, what recipe we cook for dinner, the way we view certain people, whether that perception is accurate or not."
She continued by pointing out that an online presence is nearly, if not even more important than a brick and mortar store in this the day of instant information. "Without it, when I search for your services online, I'm getting only your competitors in my search. That is certainly not going to lead me to you."
Providing evidence and certainly a valid theory that SEO plays a large part in building an online presence for any business large or small, Finnell, at the very least, helped to explain how the internet is a platform that, with proper use, can be an advantage toward "leveling the playing field."
