Lightedge Expands Altoona Data Center

Data Center operator expands its flagship facility in Iowa.

LightEdge Solutions announced today that it has completed the expansion of its current data center facility in Altoona, IA. This build out, which began in early March, created an additional 5,000 sq. ft. of data center space, bringing the total to 20,000 sq. ft.

The facility, which was the first Data Center to open in the Altoona area back in 2007, is now neighbored by others in the area including Facebook and Microsoft. The location was specifically selected for its ease of access from major markets such as Minneapolis, Kansas City, Omaha and Chicago, as well as, the fact that Iowa has long been heralded as an ideal site due to the low costs for power, land, property taxes and specialized IT talent.

Since the opening of the Altoona Data Center in 2007, LightEdge has more than tripled the facility capacity and has plans developed for a second center in that same area on existing LightEdge land. The company was purchased by the Anschutz Corporation in 2008, which has provided it with the strong financial backing and stability to continue this rapid growth. This expansion news comes just after the one year anniversary of the grand opening of LightEdge’s Data Center Facility in Kansas City within SubTropolis Technology Center.
