Line-dancing grandmother wins £15,000 Gardening Direct prize

Online, June 15, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Keen gardener and line-dancer, Val Philp, was thrilled when Gardening Direct rang her last week to tell her that she had won £15,000 in their national competition to win a Volkswagen Golf or the cash equivalent.

A loyal Gardening Direct customer over many years, Val was particularly pleased to have won as she had ordered a number of plants from the company for her garden in Annetts Hall, near Sevenoaks in Kent.

When presented with her cheque by Fiona Pickering (Gardening Direct's Customer Services Director), Val said "As a long-standing Gardening Direct customer I am absolutely thrilled to have won the prize. It could have not come at a better time for me as I have recently moved house and have a lot to do in my new home."

Travelling from Gardening Direct's head office in Chelmsford to personally deliver the cheque, Fiona Pickering said "I am absolutely delighted to have had the opportunity to present the prize to such a loyal customer and knowledgeable gardener such as Val Philp. Her new garden has great potential and I know that the plants she bought from us will do very well there."

Grandmother Val has two sons and two daughters, and has been a keen line-dancer for many years, dressing up in full 'glitz and glamour' costumes to take part. A long-standing member of the Womens' Institute, Val is also an expert upholsterer and great dog lover. She plans to use some of her prize money to visit Australia later this year.
