Literacy and Human Rights Groups to Benefit from Nutcracker Fundraiser at Clearwater's Historic Fort Harrison

The Guilfoil Ballet Theater presents a charity presentation of the Nutcracker Ballet on December 4th at the Historic Fort Harrison. Youth for Human Rights of Tampa Bay and the Community Learning Center will benefit.

CLEARWATER: On Sunday, December 4th, starting at 6pm, the Historic Fort Harrison will open its doors to the Guilfoil Ballet Theater and their production of the Nutcracker, benefitting Youth for Human Rights of Tampa Bay and the Community Learning Center.

Andrew Guilfoil, the Founder and Creative Director of the Guilfoil Ballet Theater is excited to utilize the Nutcracker to support these two groups that help children navigate today's world.

Youth for Human Rights of Tampa Bay utilizes the documentary "What are Human Rights" and Public Service Announcements outlining the 30 rights due to all people as written and ratified by the United Nations - the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Where this campaign has been implemented in schools and with youth groups, participants see a decline in violence and bullying.

The Community Learning Center uses a phonics-based reading program along with the Study Technology developed by humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. This tutoring program regularly raises reading scores to grade level and above for the children in their care.

A classic ballet story that features a child standing up to defend a friend and rewards that can come from such an action, the Nutcracker is about young Clara, who is given a Nutcracker doll as a Christmas gift by the mysterious Herr Drosselmeyer. Clara helps to transform the Nutcracker into a Prince and as a reward, is taken to meet the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Land of Sweets. Jessica White stars as Clara and Maja Kikie stars as the Sugar Plum Fairy.

At this performance, guests can join the whole cast on their magical tour of the Land of Sweets at the historic Fort Harrison on Sunday, December 4th at 6pm. Ticket prices are $25 and $50 for performance, which will include a "Land of Sweets" buffet prior to the performance.

The Fort Harrison is owned by the Church of Scientology, Flag Service Organization and is home to their international religious retreat. The Auditorium, Crystal Ballroom and Board Rooms are available to charity groups for their meetings and functions, free of charge.
