Literacy Conference To Include Build-A-Book Academic
Online, October 6, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Build-A-Book Academic is an opportunity for classrooms everywhere to write the same story, only different. This cooperative creation of a literary work represents a fun and exciting meld of social interaction and the written word.
Using Build-A-Book Academic, individual classrooms use provided story outlines to write and produce a book, which can be given to families of the students, or to the community. There is a different story outline for each grade level, so the experience can be repeated at each grade level from six through twelve without writing the same story twice.
Using a provided outline, each student writes one section of the work of fiction. The sections are then combined to form a complete story, which is formatted and bound in book form. Each student is responsible for writing the details of their section, and of fitting it with the sections before and after. The end result integrates the outlook, creativity, and ability of each student into a complete work of fiction.
By using a common outline, classrooms at the same grade level in different schools, or even different classes in the same school, can compare their version of the story with that of others.
A Build-A-Book Academic project was completed in late 2009 by a sixth grade class in the Northwestern Middle School in Albion, Pennsylvania. An interview with the teacher of that class can be found on YouTube at the link below. This video will be shown at the literacy conference, and there will also be a more detailed 45-minute presentation about Build-A-Book Academic.
Build-A-Book Academic contains the detailed story outline for each grade level from six through twelve, step-by-step instructions, and a guide for formatting and printing the manuscript in book form. Build-A-Book Academic is available at Amazon.com or in bulk from the publisher at baylapublishing.com. YouTube link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7RZQTmh1Zc
