Little Haiti Based Prefab Manufacturer Announces Partnership Deal With Renowned Architect, Ed Binkley, AIA.

Cabin Fever has entered into a partnership with award-winning architect Ed Binkley of Ed Binkley Design to launch the Shelter Series, a range of small, eco-friendly, well-designed, affordable homes for both domestic and international developments.

Recognizing a need for quality affordable homes that can be built quickly and efficiently, Cabin Fever and ed binkley design have joined forces to launch The Shelter Series, a collection of sensibly-sized and configured, affordable, component-based houses ideal for individual lots, planned communities, and small-scale developments.

The Shelter Series comes after several years of research and development and has been a concept in search of an ideal manufacturing partner. In Cabin Fever, ed binkley design has found the perfect boutique manufacturer to bring their vision of stylish, efficient, and eco-friendly homes to the world at a price that makes them truly affordable.

For Architect Ed Binkley, the needs in both domestic and international markets are very similar: "The challenges are apparent; the need for real affordable housing is obvious...The intention of this concept is to bridge the gap between mass market housing and very low-end housing that often does not address the livability or design style factor..."

Based on a classic American mid-century modern vernacular, The Shelter Series is at once striking and simple. Ed Binkley, designer of The Shelter Series: "I wanted to create a home that was first and foremost system-built, leveraging prefab components to maximize overall project efficiency." By using prefabricated building components, The Shelter Series allows on-site labor costs to be significantly reduced. The components for each building are manufactured in a controlled factory environment to precise specifications. Costs can be closely controlled and waste is reduced to almost zero. Add the use of alternative and green building materials and the result is a very smart, efficient, eco-friendly building priced below comparable site-built structures.

The Shelter Series can be easily adapted to meet the demands of any region or demographic. In addition to its suitability for domestic applications, Cabin Fever sees The Shelter Series as a potential contributor to the Haiti rebuild. "As you might imagine, being a prefab builder in Miami, we have had a lot of interest in our buildings for post-earthquake Haiti," says Andrew Kelly, President of Cabin Fever. "We have developed several designs in response to requests for affordable housing solutions, and working with Ed Binkley will allow us to add quality family-oriented homes to our domestic and international portfolio which, along with our TK Series of smaller structures, are perfect for the long-term rebuild of Haiti."

Indeed, interest in the Cabin Fever's cabins, houses, and utility buildings is global. Vincent Tom, Cabin Fever Operations Manager: "It's been an exciting year. In addition to our projects in Alaska, California, and the Blue Ridge Mountains we have several projects in development overseas including an off-grid eco-village in Costa Rica and a pro bono schoolhouse project in the West African nation of Guinea-Bissau."

In fact, despite being on the other side of the Atlantic, both Cabin Fever and ed binkley design view Africa as a real market for an innovative Miami-based builder. Miami is a port city and depending on building size, Cabin Fever can fit the components for as many as 6 complete structures into a single shipping container, all but eliminating shipping costs as a barrier to export. Andrew Kelly: "Whether it's a schoolhouse, a medical clinic, or a family home, structures that are efficient, affordable, and culturally-relevant are desperately needed in developing countries throughout the continent of Africa."

Designed by architect Ed Binkley and manufactured by Cabin Fever, The Shelter Series promises to deliver green, stylish, and affordable homes to diverse neighborhoods worldwide.
