Local Farmers Find Support From Cleveland Shoppers
Online, July 13, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Savvyavenue.com, an online service in Cleveland, that provides consumers daily offers with deals up to 75% off popular locally-owned restaurants, boutiques, and entertainment locations has partnered with numerous Cleveland businesses to benefit the Tremont Farmers' Market for the month of July.
Savvy Avenue-Cleveland is spotlighting local Cleveland businesses and restaurants on their website, offering their subscribers discount offers to three different Cleveland businesses a week.
For every purchase made this month on savvyavenue.com/Cleveland. $1 will be donated to the Tremont Farmers Market (TFM).
Farming markets, like TFM, represent the relationship that exists between local farmers and their community. Jody Hathwell, TFM manager, described a non-profit corporation that "Provides a venue for local farmers to sell high quality (items). We have worked hard to create an open environment that connects producer and consumer... we help the consumer feel connected to what he/she is eating".
Stacy Bohrer, Director of Sales at SavvyAvenue.com and born-and-raised Clevelander encouraged the company's partnership with local restaurant owner Heather Haviland. Haviland, owner and head chef of two Cleveland favorites, Lucky's Cafe, and Vine & Bean Cafe recommended working with TFM as the website's feature charity for July.
Haviland, shops at the Tremont Farmers' Market for products she serves in both her restaurants. "We use whatever is plentiful and lovely and put it directly in our daily menu".
How can the consumer help? Hathwell encourages participation. Every Tuesday this summer, stop by between 4-7pm to experience fresh foods and local chef demos.
Hathwell explained how important these local partnerships are. "The more we are able to support our growers, the more sustainable their work will be. Spread the word, we are always looking for volunteer help. We operate on a less than shoe string budget, and make a lot happen with very little money".
