Fort Myers resident and Parkinson's activist Toni Palumbo, along with her husband, Gary, and daughter, is hosting an unprecedented golf tournament to raise money benefiting The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Toni believes a cure is just around the corner and invites you to join her in making a difference in the lives of those living with Parkinson's disease by attending the Team Fox Swing for the Cure.

Parkinson's disease is a chronic degenerative neurological disorder whose symptoms typically progress from mild tremors to complete physical incapacitation. There is no known cause or cure.

Having been diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2006, Palumbo and her family moved from Hillsborough, New Jersey to Fort Myers in late 2011 to escape the cold - a trigger for Palumbo's symptoms - and to enjoy a change of pace. Palumbo, now retired, realized that she wanted to do something positive in the face of a diagnosis that often leaves many in shock and at a standstill.

The event will take place on January 17, 2013 at the Plantation Golf and Country Club and will feature a golf tournament: Four person Scramble, 8:30 a.m. Shotgun Start, there are many prizes and a helicopter golf ball drop. Prizes will include private golf and tennis lessons, art from creative artists, baseball tickets, and Scanlon Auto Group will sponsor the hole-in-one prize. Mr. Scanlon said, "The winner will have the option of choosing between a Acura or Lexus," selected for the tournament.

Palumbo is in the process of soliciting sponsors starting from $200 - $5000; listed are a few who joined the team, they are: Costco, The Pulte Group, John R. Wood Realtors, Daniels Parkway Animal Hospital, Lowes, and Scanlon Auto Group. For sponsorship opportunities, email [email protected].
