The Global Teens Project announced today that local Southern California 8th grader, Sydney Jones, will be the host of a fun new TV show that will explore the lives of teenagers around the world. The pilot episode of the show will be filmed in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico in May 2014 and will feature 2 very different families. Future shows will bring Sydney to as many as 50 countries over the next four years. For each show she will stay with the host-families so she can share the authentic experience.

ABOUT THE GLOBAL TEENS PROJECT

Studies show that compassion among teens is at an all-time low. Just turn on the news to see that bullying and violent crimes involving teens are far too common. And TV programming for this age group doesn't help - most of what they see is violence, overt sexuality, "reality" shows that are anything but real, and "family" shows featuring kids who are sarcastic, mean and disrespectful toward parents who are portrayed as bumbling idiots, if they're present at all.

The Global Teens Project, co-founded in 2013 by Sydney Jones and her mom, Fay, offers up some options that begin to address these issues. This show will expose viewers (ages 12-20) in a fun and entertaining way to different cultures, languages, foods and traditions - think Anthony Bourdain for teens! They get to experience "a day in the life" and see what it's really like to be a teen in a situation that's pretty different from their own.

The show aims to broaden perspectives: to upgrade tolerance and encourage respect for differences, and help these kids develop a deeper sense of all they have in common. Developing this kind of global mindset can help set them up for greater success in this increasingly global 21st century world.

In addition to the show, there are also two other projects in the planning stages:

Diversity Education school assemblies for middle and high school aged kids, and
an on-going series of short webcasts showcasing the diversity of this region and exploring the 100+ cultures that make up the people of Southern California -- all from the teen perspective
