Logic PD Achieves AM35x SOM-M2 FCC Certification

System on Module combines wireless connectivity with highly integrated microprocessor to save product designers time, risk and cost

MINNEAPOLIS - Sept. 8, 2010 - Logic PD announced today that it has received FCC modular transmitter certification for its AM35x SOM-M2, an off-the-shelf, System on Module (SOM) that contains a high-performance ARM® microprocessor, powerful graphics engine, and multiple peripherals, including wireless Ethernet and Bluetooth®. This FCC-certified SOM significantly reduces development time and certification expenses that customers incur during the final stages of product development.

"By completing the FCC certification, Logic PD has removed a critical qualification step for customers that will significantly reduce their time-to-market while increasing their product's functionality," said Russell Crane, Sitara marketing manager at TI.

The AM35x SOM-M2 integrates the Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) Sitara™ AM35x microprocessor and the WiLink™ 6.0 wireless chipset that contains multiple radio technologies. At the heart of WiLink 6.0 sits the WL1271 device, which encompasses all digital and analog content required for WLAN and Bluetooth® communication, and enables support for IEEE 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR.

"By integrating a high-end applications processor with a multi-radio wireless system, our AM35x SOM-M2 instantly solves a complex design problem with a proven, off-the-shelf, FCC-certified solution," said Kurt Larson, director of product management, Logic PD. "This SOM reduces design risks, time and costs associated with developing products that require both advanced processing and wireless connectivity."

FCC-Certified AM35x SOM-M2 Highlights:
• Complete out-of-the-box system gets customers connected and into production quickly.
• Pre-certification saves customers significant time and money by reducing design risk and shortening the final electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing phase.
• U.FL connector on the SOM printed circuit board (PCB) enables flexible antenna architecture allowing customers to design the AM35x SOM-M2 into a multitude of end applications.

Also released today is a WiLink 6.0 software patch set that is applied to TI's open source Linux PSP version 03.00.00.05. The patch set includes a pre-built sample image to quickly demonstrate connectivity and complete instructions for building a custom image tailored for the end product.
