Lollipop Kids Foundation To Hold First Annual Fundraising Gala

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Lollipop Kids Foundation, a group established to help the families of children with disabilities, will hold their inaugural fundraising gala on Friday, September 24th, 2010.

Foundation Founder and Executive Director Debbie Sahlin established the Lollipop Kids Foundation to "share knowledge, resources, strength, passion and encouragement with families that are left feeling distraught and alone in the midst of hardship." Sahlin's son Ryan suffered a traumatic brain injury when he was 11 months old. Today, Ryan is 15 and Debbie wants to use her experience raising a child with a disability to "to help others find the blessings hidden in tragedy."

Since its establishment in 2009, the Foundation has been successful in donating durable medical equipment to children whose families lack the resources to obtain in on their own. The foundation has also sponsored special outings for disabled children and their families, including a visit to a local farm, accessible sailing trips and attendance at a Washington Nationals game featuring famed rookie pitcher Stephen Strasburg.

The Foundation's programs are allowing families struggling to raise children with disabilities feel "part of the scene" of family fun and activity that can be difficult to access when a member of the family is disabled.
