LoveThyNeighborUSA - Grassroots Group Supporting Local Food Pantry

TOMS RIVER, N.J., May 29, 2019 (Newswire.com) - ​When LoveThyNeighbor, a grassroots group of activists embracing community values, became aware of the financial challenges of The Peoples Pantry, a local Toms River subsidized food pantry that was not funded for 2020, it became clear that something needed to be done to keep its doors open.

​Since 2013, The Peoples Pantry in Toms River, New Jersey has served, on average, 5,000 neighbors, proudly receiving 120,000 lb of food donations and collecting 1,400 volunteer hours monthly. The center is conveniently located at the B.E.A.T. Center in Silverton. The Peoples Pantry recorded over 1,000 volunteer hours and distributed 150,000 pounds of mostly donated food. In addition, nearly 500 other clients are connected to other services monthly, including food stamps, education, transportation, health insurance and wellness providers.

In August 2013, the Jon Bon Jovi Foundation partnered with The Peoples Pantry and, together, an agreement with the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties joined together to bring these much-needed services to the community. A capital campaign was launched with the understanding that enough funding would be raised for a build-out and for expenses for 10 years. Unfortunately, it didn’t hit the required goal. The Bon Jovi Foundation was notified in April that funding for the store operations will no longer be available after July 1, 2019.

As a community, it's important to take the responsibly to raise money to cover the $160,000 annual operating budget of The Peoples Pantry. It is legally called "Inspire-NJ A NJ Nonprofit Corp", and any donation will help make an impact.
