ISLE OF MAN, UK - 6, March 2015 - Lucent Group (Lucent), the site assembly and land development specialist, has welcomed the Government announcement that unused public sector land has been released in the UK to build over 103,000 new homes.

The announcement was made on Wednesday March 4, 2015 by Communities Secretary Eric Pickles.

The amount of land sold by the government surpasses the original commitment set by the Prime Minister in June 2011, and is expected to rise again by the end of the month. It is now calling on councils and developers to help turn the unused land into housing as quickly as possible.

Charles Flynn, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Lucent Group, said: “The announcement is excellent news and helps to address the housing crisis which this country is currently facing. At Lucent, our Investment Partnership schemes with local authorities play a significant role in meeting the UK’s ongoing challenge to release public sector land for development, and accelerate large scale residential schemes that will ease the housing supply shortage.

“Our Investment Partnership model supports local authorities by providing the necessary funding to enable them to master plan and deliver viable redevelopment schemes for large strategic sites that would otherwise remain unfulfilled or be approached in a fragmented fashion due to local authority budget constraints. Along with capital investment, we also provide the planning and delivery expertise to bring large scale land investment and critical infrastructure schemes through the planning process, while the local authority provides the land assets.

“These partnerships are currently underway with two local authorities; Peterborough City Council and Allerdale Borough Council, to bring forward growth and redevelopment in both areas. We are continuing to partner with increasing numbers of English local councils to develop land assets.
