LucidChart Raises One Million in Seed Financing From 500 Startups, 2M Companies, and K9 Ventures

Funding to strengthen diagramming and flowchart app's position as web-based alternative for visual communication with real-time collaboration

LucidChart , a web-based diagramming application with real-time collaboration features, announced that it has raised approximately $1M USD in seed financing from 500 Startups, 2M Companies, K9 Ventures, and other angel investors.

According to LucidChart CEO Karl Sun, this round of seed funding will be used to grow the team as the company continues its mission of building web applications that are easier to use and better than desktop software.

Dave McClure of 500 Startups said, "We all want to communicate visually, but until now there have not been good web tools for doing so. LucidChart showcases what graphical web applications can do, and the power of web technologies today. Part of what makes LucidChart so powerful is its incredible ease of use."

LucidChart gives project managers, designers, web developers, educators, executives and anyone else a simple way to create attractive, yet sophisticated, visual graphs. For example, developers can rapidly mock-up websites or iPhone applications to share with clients. Project managers can create great looking process diagrams. Executives can easily make organization charts. And entire teams can brainstorm and create mind maps simultaneously.

The online application is based on HTML5 and runs right in any web browser. LucidChart is available on any device and any platform, and there's nothing to download or install. The app has been designed from the ground up to give users the best of both worlds: the anywhere, any device freedom of a web app with the robust performance and UI of a desktop application, including offline support. LucidChart also lets teams collaborate in real-time, including group chat for live interaction.

"Open standards are really important as we move forward, since applications will need to run on multiple devices and environments. LucidChart has built the right technology foundation to truly make cloud based applications accessible and usable in the broader marketplace," said Morton H. Meyerson, CEO and Chairman of 2M Companies, Inc. and the former President of Electronic Data Systems, Inc.

LucidChart offers several plans to fit everyone's needs - from a free account with up to 25 MB storage and 2 collaborators to team accounts starting at $25/month for 5 GB storage, unlimited collaborators, and other premium features.
