Lucy The 30 Pound Tortoise Nearly Made It Home Until Someone Took Her Again

LUCY made it within 100 feet of her home when someone picked her up and dropped her off in field miles from the only home she knows. Lucy the 7 year old 30 lb Sulcata Tortoise is a very friendly pet who is used sleeping inside in her bed.

On Thursday evening Lucy was dropped off in a field near a pond by a mover at Emma & Burlington in Lafayette. Please help us find her! Lucy has now been missing for nearly 2 weeks. She cannot survive the cold weather.

On 10/5/2010 Lucy escaped from her back yard in Westminster. Her family and friends have been searching for her non-stop. In addition to scouring the neighborhood and following-up on any lead, she's listed on Craig's list as well as nearly all local pet classifieds and pet shelters . On 10/9/2010 we received a tip indicating she was seen in Brighton as someone was carrying her across Highway 7 so she would not be hit by a car. In our research we found that she had turned around and was following her scent back home to 144th and Huron.

Lucy made it within 100 feet of her home when on 10/14/2010 at 6:00 pm in the evening a mover was working at the house next door to Lucy's home. He said she was in the driveway going into the garage when she started following him. As I said, Lucy is extremely friendly and follows people, she lives inside and acts very much like the family dog. The mover then picked her up and took her to his home where his wife said that she did not want to keep her. The worker then took Lucy to the pond located at Emma and Burlington roads in Lafayette and left her there.
At about 6:30 pm on 10/16/2010 the owner of Lucy received a call from his neighbor indicating that his mover had taken Lucy. The neighbor provided the movers telephone number. Robin, Lucy's owner, contacted the mover who took Robin, his wife, their dog and a friend of theirs were taken to where Lucy was dumped into the field. They searched until nearly 10:00 pm with no sighting of Lucy.

We are now asking for your help in finding Lucy and are offering a reward for her safe return. Since she no longer has a scent in which to follow, she is likely still to be within a 1 mile radius of her drop off point in the field at Emma and Burlington in Lafayette. Since she is a tortoise, she will not be near the water but rather in a dry area where there is fresh grass and vegetation. If she is able to reach someone's house she will be near the front door or a sliding glass door asking to come into the house. If it is sunny outside she will likely be out in the open sunning or walking around. Please help us find her.
Since she is a Sulcata Tortoise she does not burrow into the ground; nor will she hibernate. She needs to be found quickly given the inclement weather. She will not make it through freezing temperatures.
