The Beethoven Was African project launch showcases an album of Piano Sonatas which faithfully renders Ludwig Van Beethoven's music as it should have been played. The apparent African polyrhythms, originally crafted by Ludwig Van Beethoven into the scores, have been left unplayed and unheared since his demise. Until now. The music is as Beethoven conceived it.

Providing fresh insights into the African origins of LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN, a collective of musicologists and musicians, experts in 18th century European and African music, launch Beethoven Was African, a project which features a website supporting original academia and music: www.beethovenwasafrican.com 

​The Beethoven Was African project is supported by an album which faithfully renders Ludwig Van Beethoven’s music as it should have been played.
By re-focusing the longstanding debate surrounding Ludwig Van Beethoven’s origins on the core question - his music - the collective hopes to provide a different lens, perhaps the original one, with which to appreciate his legacy.
